Spencer versus Springer

When the Appalachian Trail was first conceived, its starting point was Spencer Mountain. Only later, when farming encroached on the trails at Spencer, the southern terminus was changed to Springer Mountain. That part wasn't a typo. --Sysop 20:13, 17 August 2007 (PDT)

I think you'll find that Mt. Oglethorpe was the original southern terminus. And of course, at conception, NH's Mount Washington was to be the northern end, not Katahdin. We have Myron Avery to thank for having Katahdin anchor the Trail in the north. Nice job here so far, but "Mount" Katahdin? It's just Katahdin! 24.147.227.163 16:27, 2 October 2007 (PDT) TJ aka Teej
