Nesuntabunt Mountain
From Katahdin
Contents |
Description and location
At 1,550 feet, Nesuntabunt Mountain is not one of the larger mountains in Maine, yet its summit offers some of the best views of the Katahdin Range, from the south, as well as views over Nahmakanta Lake.
Nesuntabunt Mountain is located in the unorganized township of T1R11 WELS. Wadleigh Mountain is southeast of it, and the Wadleigh Stream lean-to on the Appalachian Trail is about two miles away.
Access
From ME-11, take the road northwest at Bear Brook, about sixteen miles northeast of Brownville Junction, following it for about 25 miles toward the northwestern end of Nahmakanta Lake. There is a checkpoint, with a fee, just off of ME-11 at the Jo-Mary Campground.
Where the Appalachian Trail crosses this road, follow it south to the northern summit. A side trail will lead 250 feet to some nice views.
Distances
- Northern summit, 1.2 miles.
