History

The first known settlers in the area that was to become Medway came in the 1840s and 1850s, and the town was incorporated in 1875. Prior to its incorporation, it was known as Nicatou, which means "the forks."

Geography

The town of Medway, Maine is located at the forks of the East and West Branches of the Penobscot River, about sixty miles north of Bangor on I-95, adjacent to East Millinocket, and just over ten miles southeast of Millinocket on ME-157.
