Geography

Island Falls Township, bordered to the north by Dyer Brook, to the south by T3R5 WELS, to the west by Crystal, and to the east by T4R3 WELS, contains some large bodies of water, including the western portions of Pleasant and Mattawamkeag Lakes, all of Upper Mattawamkeag Lake, a small northern portion of Caribou Lake, and several small ponds, brooks, and streams, as well as the larger West Branch of the Mattawamkeag River, which empties into Upper Mattawamkeag Lake.

The more populated portions of the township, which would be the town of Island Falls itself, is in the northwestern portion of the township, which also includes I-95, US-2, and ME-159, all of which enter the town.

Another smaller settlement area, in the northeastern part of the township, is Walker Settlement, in the portion of land separating Pleasant Lake and Upper Mattawamkeag Lake. May Mountain sits between the town of Island Falls and the Walker Settlement.

The John E and Walter D Webb Museum of Vintage Fashion is located in an 1894 home, and features antique clothing displayed in twelve rooms, each with different themes. Open weekends, by appointment only.

There are no schools currently operating in Island Falls, Maine. The town is a part of CSD #109, which includes the towns of Crystal, Dyer Brook, Island Falls, Merrill, Oakfield and Smyrna. Island Falls students are bused to Southern Aroostook Community School, in Dyer Brook, Maine.
