Greenville
From Katahdin
Greenville is located at the wilderness edge of sparsely populated Piscataquis County, only 35 miles north of the county seat, Dover-Foxcroft. Historically, Greenville has been perceived as the gateway to the north woods - and, of course, to Moosehead Lake, the largest body of fresh water in the state.

Moosehead Marine Museum
Features the Katahdin, a National Historic Landmark; which, more than any other remaining piece of Moosehead's history, truly reflects the many eras, interests, and businesses of the region's past and present. Built in 1914 by the young shipyard Bath Iron Works, the steamboat Katahdin was later converted to diesel, and has become the final link to a bygone era. In 1976, the Moosehead Marine Museum was founded and it acquired the Katahdin as its star exhibit. In addition to the Katahdin, the Museum has an extensive collection of steamboat memorabilia and early photographs of the Moosehead area. The Moosehead Marine Museum and the Katahdin are located in the center of town behind the United Kingfield Bank, across the street from Shaw Public Library.

Medical
Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home
The Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital & Nursing Home (C. A. Dean) is a 14-bed, acute care hospital with a 24-bed skilled and intermediate care nursing home nestled near the shores of Moosehead Lake.
History
In 1911, the Hollingsworth & Whitney Company, a logging operation which became Scott Paper Company, built a large brick building in Greenville Junction to serve as the regional YMCA and 10-bed hospital. The president of Hollingsworth & Whitney was Charles Augustus Dean, for whom the hospital is named. By 1914, it became clear that a larger hospital was needed, and Dean financed and began the construction of a 22-bed, fully equipped medical facility, completed in 1917. In 1941, the Board of Directors voted to apply for affiliation with the State of Maine, and incorporated in Maine as the Charles A. Dean "Memorial" Hospital.
