Dover-Foxcroft

Dover-Foxcroft is the shire town, or county seat, of Piscataquis County, as well as its largest town. As of the 2000 census, the town population was 4,211. As the name implies, Dover-Foxcroft originally was two towns, Dover and Foxcroft, which were separated by the Piscataquis river. In 1922 the two merged into one town.Contents |

Geography
Dover-Foxcroft is located in the southern portion of Piscataquis County. The current hyphenated town of Dover-Foxcroft was originally two towns: Dover and Foxcroft, with the Piscataquis River serving as the boundary between the two. Today, Dover-Foxcroft is bounded by Bowerbank to the north, Garland to the south, Sebec and Atkinson to the east, and Guilford to the west.A large portion of Sebec Lake is within the Dover-Foxcroft township limits, and there are several other ponds, brooks, and streams, as well.

Center Theatre
Annual variety show, featuring area doctors, medical staff, and their friends in performances ranging from song and dance to acting and martial arts. The event raises needed funds so that Pine Tree Hospice volunteers can provide companionship, respite care for caregivers, transportation to appointments, meal preparation, shopping, medication delivery and many more services to those in need.

As with much of Maine north of Bangor, Dover-Foxcroft has experienced a decline in population over the last decade; but as compared to other nearby towns, the decline has been relatively small. At the time of the 2000 census, there were 4,211 people living in 1,658 households. Dover-Foxcroft has only 372 housing units that are seasonal, recreational, or occasional use.

Mayo Regional Hospital
Mayo Regional Hospital is a non-profit, 25-bed critical access hospital. The hospital opened in 1978, and is currently governed by Hospital Administrative District 4, which was established by twelve towns to serve the healthcare needs of residents in a three-county area of rural central Maine. Mayo Hospital has 22 physicians and 320 staff members dedicated to providing acute medical/surgical care, intensive care, surgical services and obstetrics in an inpatient setting, as well as a wide array of outpatient services.
